We have had a very interested April with lot’s happening at the reserve! The Aird Meadow path is well on it’s way to looking smooth, less muddy and wheelchair accessible! We thank you for your patience while this work is going on and should hopefully be completed soon enough!
The reserve has been very buzzing with lots of interesting wildlife this month! There are plenty of willow warblers and chiffchaffs filling the reserve with song. Swallows, sand martins and house martins have taken over the Aird Meadow Loch, skimming the water for wee beasties. We have also had a nuthatch on the feeders! A first for the reserve! Since then we have had sightings of nuthatch along the Dubbs Trail. As well as a nuthatch we have also had a pair of garganey using the channels and the pond. These are fantastic looking ducks which are rarely seen in west Scotland. As well as all these great birds sightings we have also had 2 otters seen along the Dubb’s water!
103 bird species have been seen this year and we had a mini competition to see who could guess this year’s 100th species! Congratulation to Hayley Douglas who guessed a sedge warbler!
We have got some exciting fun filled events throughout the month of May. If you are an early riser you should come along to our Dawn Chorus on the 3rd of May at 4:30am, early but worth it!
Enjoy your May and let’s hope the weather decides what it’s doing and sticks to one season! Summer please!
